Manager Billy Emerson

Upon graduating from Mason, Billy was named Head Coach at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA, and led the 1998 Titans to their best season ever, earning him honors as Northern Virginia’s Coach of the Year. Emerson resigned from his head coaching duties in 1999 to accept a promotion as Assistant Athletic Director at his alma mater, James Madison High School in Vienna. While at Madison, he continued in baseball as an assistant coach for the nationally ranked, State Championship squad and joined the Vienna Mustangs of the Clark Griffith League as pitching coach.

Emerson left Madison in 2003 to become Head Coach at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, VA. His first three seasons at Paul VI have been extremely successful, yielding 60 victories, a State Championship, and a national ranking. He was selected as the head coach for the "South" team in the 2005 Mid-Atlantic High School All-Star Game played at the University of Maryland. Emerson has guided dozens of his players to college and professional baseball in the past 11 years, including 15 players in just three years at Paul VI.

Billy spent the last two summers in the Clark Griffith League as the General Manager of the Vienna Senators and is currently an Associate Scout for the Detroit Tigers. He also works as the Director of Development at Paul VI and is studying for a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Emerson has been married to his wife Lisa for ten years. The couple resides in Vienna with their two daughters, Amanda (6) and Haley (4). Emerson’s father Bill is a legendary hall of fame bluegrass musician.

Pitching Coach Jeff Nolan

A native Californian and high school teammate of Mark McGwire, Jeff Nolan pitched in college at Cal Poly Pomona and was a key member of the 1980 and 1983 NCAA Division II National Championship teams. Nolan played under Coach John Scolinos at Cal Poly, who was voted Coach of the Century by the College Baseball Hall of Fame, NCAA Baseball Coach of the Decade for the 1980s, and pitching coach for the 1984 U.S. Olympic team.

Upon graduating from Cal Poly, Jeff was invited to tryout with the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals. He then taught at Pomona Catholic High School for a year before pursuing a business career. Ultimately, Nolan became Chief Executive Officer of a multi-million dollar information technology-consulting firm. He also founded Nolan Baseball Academy in Upland California, providing player instruction and coaching clinics. Jeff was the pitching coach at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, CA, prior to relocating to Northern Virginia in 1998, and has been coaching at the high school level and above for 20 years.

Nolan nearly took an assistant coaching job at Georgetown University in 2003 before joining Billy Emerson’s staff as pitching coach at Paul VI. While at Paul VI, he has guided his pitchers to 60 wins in three seasons and a 1.73 team ERA in 2005. Coach Nolan also assisted Paul VI hitters to a .371 team AVG. with 23 Homeruns and 220 RBI in 2005, and was selected as an assistant coach in the 2005 Mid-Atlantic High School All-Star Game.

Nolan has been married to his wife, Greta, for 20 years. The couple resides in Centreville, VA. Their daughter, Lindsey, is in her freshman year at Radford University. Nolan’s father Bob pitched in the Cleveland Indians organization from 1950-53.

 

 


Coach Jim Beck

Jim coaches baseball at Fall Church High School in Falls Church VA. Jim is a longtime manager and coach in the Northern VA area and has coached at every level in baseball, including Little League, Babe Ruth, High School, American Legion, Industrial League, mens leagues, and now college. Jim is on the roster of several mens league teams throughout the area and regularly plays upwards of 100 games per year. Rumor has it that Jim played minor league baseball during the Kennedy Administration.

Jim owns A.J.'s Sport Shop in Vienna, VA and is a founder of the Nationals and serves as its President.

Jim lives in Fairfax, along wtih his wife Linda, their children Walter and Monica.

Assistant Coach Tony Salgato

Tony Salgado played for Billy Emerson at T.C. Williams High School where he was an All-District catcher, team captain, and leadoff hitter for the best team in school history. Tony considered several Division II and III options before choosing to walk on at George Mason University.

After physical limitations forced an early end to his playing career, Salgado immediately began coaching as a 19-year-old varsity assistant at Annandale High School. He continued coaching high school travel baseball for the next five summers while completing his B.S. degree in Physical Education from Mason.

Tony rejoined Emerson as an assistant at Paul VI Catholic High School in 2003 and accepted a teaching position at Washington Irving Middle School in the Fairfax County Public Schools system. Under Coach Salgado's guidance as the catching coach, Paul VI catchers have thrown out over 40% of all base stealers in the past two seasons. With Salgado coaching first base, PVI base runners were successful in 90% of all stolen base attempts, stealing a school record 79 bases in 2005.

Considered one of the top young coaches in the Washington Metropolitan Area, Salgado coached players from Tulane, Tennessee and several other top ranked colleges in the Clark Griffith League as an assistant with the Vienna Senators in 2005. He was also selected as an assistant coach in the 2005 Mid-Atlantic High School All-Star Game.

While at T.C. Williams, Salgado was a student of Herman Boone; the legendary football coach portrayed in the major motion picture “Remember The Titans”. Tony is single and resides in Burke, VA.

 

A native of nearby Vienna, VA, Billy Emerson was collegiate standout at both Montgomery College and George Mason University. In 1994, he was drafted into professional baseball and played for the Class A Newark Buffalos of the Frontier League. Following the ’94 season he was offered a promotion to the Class AA Western League and was invited by several teams to tryout as a replacement player for striking Major Leaguers, but opted to complete his college degree and began scouting for the Houston Astros.

Assistant Coach Tad Davidovich

Tad Davidovich was an all-district infielder at nearby James Madison High School in Vienna, VA. Following a playing stint on the collegiate level at Div. I Samford University, he transferred to Mary Washington College where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Historic Preservation. In the mid-1990’s, Davidovich began coaching as an assistant at Madison and as a head coach in AAU summer baseball with the Vienna Mustangs. His 18 and under Mustang teams regularly competed at the national level and won a bracket championship at the Cocoa Expo International Tournament in 1999. Tad joined Billy Emerson at Paul VI Catholic High School in 2002 and has successfully coached defense and hitting in his four seasons with the Panthers. PVI fielded .965 as a team under his guidance in 2005. In 2006 the panthers set a school record turning 25 double plays in 32 games. Over the last 2 years Davidovich also assisted PVI hitters to season averages of .367, 23 home runs and 237 RBI’s. He was also selected as an assistant coach in the 2005 Mid-Atlantic High School All-Star Game. Tad is employed as an assistant superintendent with Clark Construction and will likely work on the Washington Nationals new stadium. He is single and resides in Vienna. His brother Pete played in the Division III College World Series for Salisbury University and is an alumnus of the Clark Griffith League. Tad is also a life-long Chicago Cubs fan. The nephew of the Cubs former traveling secretary, his birth was announced on WGN during a game.
